A Bit Of History: Dwarf Mages!

I play an undead mage as my main character because it seemed to be the best race to play a horde mage as at the time I created it. Troll mages were few and blood elf mages just didn’t exist yet. But I always told people that I would have definitely been a gnome had I played as alliance. Gnomes are so cute and their escape artist racial is one of the best racials in the game. To those guys who never knew, did you know that the other diminutive race once could be mages too? I just found this out myself just a few months ago and I thought it was cool. Yes, I’m talking about dwarf mages!

As evidenced by the image above, dwarf mages did exist in the beta stages of the game. You can tell it was way back since the character creation screen looked different from what it looks like now. For some reason, the developers decided to remove dwarf mages from the game. I believe the reason for the removal is the lack of lore to support the idea of a dwarf being a mage. Unlike gnomes, dwarves seemed to more suited for the “dirty jobs” like warriors, paladins, hunters, and rogues. Priest is the only cloth class that makes sense since dwarves aren’t known to delve into the world of the arcane.

Nevertheless, some want the dwarf mage back. It would be cool to have a mage that can use stoneform to cure himself/herself of diseases, poisons, and bleed effects. With stoneform and remove curse, a dwarf mage would be able to rid himself/herself of almost every harmful condition. Dwarf mages should also have the ability to conjure alchohol! Of course, this is very unlikely to happen but if it does happen the horde should get orc or tauren mages too! Haha!

Yeah, I was reading through the game manual at one point and saw under the Dwarf page “Availble classes: blah blah blah blah MAGE blah blah” and I just thought it was a typo on the manual… guess not :P
