A Blue Word On Soloing Content

by Angelo on June 14th, 2008

I understand your desire for this, but grouping up is an important part of the game, our goal with the 10 person raids is to making the raiding content feel a little less exclusive to players, but if you want to see everything then you would need to take on the challenges of every aspect of the game.

CM Bornakk has this to say about soloing content especially for the next expansion.

When the new expansions come out everybody has to level their characters up and at some point find new gear. This is a great opportunity for new players to get involved in their guilds if they are looking to take on a bigger roll in progression.

We do have a lot of solo-content available in the game as it is. You can level up to the max level, go through every zone, complete the vast majority of quests, enter battlegrounds and continually do a number of daily quests without ever grouping up with other players - but adding more variety to the game is important to a lot of people and that is where the 5 person and then 10/25 person raid dungeons come into play. These aspects are more challenging and so the story arcs they involve build up accordingly.

In short, we don’t currently have any plans to add solo play to every aspect of World of Warcraft. source

There’s a reason why World of Warcraft is considered a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Grouping and interacting with other players is a must if you want to experience most of the content in the game. in spite of this, there really is a lot of stuff you can do solo. In fact, WoW must be one of the most solo friendly MMO’s around. I heard that there are other games that require you to group up to do anything. At least in WoW you can reach the level cap, do daily quests, and even do some PvP while you’re all alone (well you do get a group but doing battlegrounds is something you can do without having to call out in LFG to do).

The game is such that you can get decent gear without ever joining a raid. By doing heroics, getting badges and also PvPing for epics you can get good gear. But sill, this requires you to get a group and do something as opposed to just soloing content for your gear. This is the minimum the game asks of you.

I don’t tend to do lots of grouping with random people in the game, when grouped I’m normally with my brother and/or a couple of friends I know.

As a hunter, I sometimes also do stuff with guildmates, but other than that it’s me and my pig!

As solo friendly the game already is, as a hunter it’s even easier!
