All Priests To Have Fear Ward

Back in the days of pre-BC, many people argued that the alliance had it easier in raids because Dwarf priests had fear ward which is a 10 minute buff that gives make the target immune to the first fear effect that affects him. It’s a very useful spell to have especially on the main tank of the group or raid against bosses that fear. This made Dwarves the most favorable race for PvE if you rolled alliance. Then TBC came out and Draenei priests had it too. But now fear ward won’t just be limited to Dwarves and Draenei. priests. In fact all priests, including horde ones, will have it too come patch 2.3.

Fear Ward will be available to all priests at level 20, but there are some changes in addition. Current plans are to reduce duration to 3 minutes, and increase the cooldown to 3 minutes.

To give the dwarves and draenei something else to even it out, they’ll see a new ability called Chastise (also given at level 20) which will cause holy damage and incapacitate the target for 2 seconds.

Fear ward is still a very awesome racial so dwarves and draenei had to get something cool now that fear ward was no longer one of their racial specific abilities. Chastise is a damage and an incapacitate effect, giving them a nifty way to piss people off in PvP. I wonder how the guys who rolled dwarf priest just for fear ward feel now that the very reason why they rolled a dwarf is now available to all races of their class.

First the horde gets paladins, now they get fear ward too! Woohoo!

one of the main reasons why i had a pre-BC dwarf priest was for the fear ward. i do a feel a little cheated, since one of the reasons Blizzard did that was people not a lot of people played dwarves, just like not a lot of people played horde (thus giving them better racials as an incentive).

well, chastise evens it out a little, but in the end, i guess we still have stoneform. :)

I guess it does feel a bit insulting that the main reason why dwarf priests were unique is now available to all priest races. But if you think about it, it sure was a big problem for non dwarves as alliance in pre-TBC. There was some discrimination in guild recruitments. At least now, you can focus more on just being a priest and worry more on what you want to look like rather than whether you have fear ward or not.
