Any Unsaved Wanna Run Kara?

Karazhan. It’s what every new level 70 player aspires for. So far it’s the only 10 man raid dungeon of its kind in the whole game. Entrance to Karazhan requires a pretty long process that involves running several dungeons to get the key you need to get in. Like all raid dungeons in the past, it’s also subject to a raid timer that needs to reset before you can raid it again from the start.

AFKGamer writes about the “Karazhan Mistake” referring to the the problems people encounter with the raid timers when raiding Karazhan. Such a problem, if not addressed, will definitely affect future 10 man raids such as Zul’aman.

So here’s what happened with Karazhan. If the guild chose to run multiple simultaneous Karazhans, and if they required more than one night to clear Karazhan (typical), every once in a while some of the raiders had real life obligations and couldn’t show up that night and a replacement was needed. And so another guildmate was locked into a raid ID and was unavailable for the other Karazhans as replacements. Inevitably, one Karazhan raid would be the strongest and the others were weaker — either by way of gear or attendance or ability/knowledge of the zone.

He’s right. In my current guild, I see this type of problem all the time. I always hear “any unsaved want to run Kara?” because there aren’t enough people from that particular team. They can’t take the others because they have a different raid ID. While getting 10 players to run Karazhan is easier to start than a 25 man raid or even the 40 man raids of before, all the different ID’s makes it quite a pain in the a** to sort out.

I remember the 20 man level 60 raid dungeons like Zul’gurub had raid timers of just a few days and the content could pretty much be finished in one run. What’s causing the problem is that Karazhan has a timer of one week which is the same as even 40 man dungeons of old and could take pretty much the same amount of time to clear. Why can’t the 10 mans be like Blackrock Spire? You can finish it in one run because it’ not too big. Just make the difficulty and loot scale with a dungeon fitting for epic loot. That way we don’t need to bother with long raid timers and the devs could just use a 2 day timer if it’s at all necessary.
