Arena PvP Can Be Expensive!

Arena PvP has become very popular ever since TBC came out and season 1 started partly because it’s a different kind of PvP than what you find in the Battlegrounds. But one of the reasons I like it (and I’m sure many others too) is the fact that the rewards you trade your arena points for are so awesome that they could almost be great substitutes for raiding gear. I said almost because I know raiding gear gives importance to +hit which arena rewards normally don’t have. But aside from that arena rewards provide a great substitute especially if you’re trying to plug a few holes in your sets and they could be quite easy to get especially if you’re having great success with your teams. But one thing that’s a big drag about Arena PvP is the fact that success usually comes at a huge expense!

I’m a frost mage now hugely because I love being one. Coincidentally it’s great that I am one since it’s pretty much the only way to go if you want to be successful in the Arena. My mage 2v2 partner Grimreach tried doing arena as fire and we just sucked. Other classes aren’t any better. Druids who play as feral in PvE content are forced to do arenas with a more arena friendly build like restoration or balance. Protection warriors have to do the same. To make things short, for players to enjoy both PvE and PvP content, they usually have to constantly reallocate their talents before doing one or the other and that’s pretty darn expensive. Monstrous from the Suramar realm suggested in the official forums to have two talent specs, one for PvP and one for PvE. Here’s what CM Nethaera has to say about the problem.

The idea has been brought up before, but it’s not something we intend to allow at this point in time. We are working toward ways of alleviating the need to respec where we can by working toward continued balancing of the various trees and adding and adjusting gear, but in the end, there will always be a choice to be made about what you want most out of a spec. We don’t feel that the cost to respec is prohibitive and as we get into Wrath of the Lich King , much like what happened with the Burning Crusade, there will be more gold infused into the economy again. source

It’s nice to hear more balancing is going to happen. Personally I love the idea that iceblock will be trainable so that you don’t necessarily have to spec frost to enjoy some PvP viability. I guess more changes along this line is what the devs have in mind. Anyway, if you still need to respec all the time, that’s what daily quests are for!

2 opinions for Arena PvP Can Be Expensive!

It really is annoying having to respec back and forth every week but is still a small drop in the bucket compared to having to gear out 2 different sets of gear.

Having to gear up several sets of gear is one of the reasons why I was scared to play a hybrid class. But I do think it’s time to try playing one to see what it’s like to play other roles aside from just DPS. But I sure am glad I don’t really have to keep respeccing so often with my mage.
