CM Nethaera Talks About WoTLK Gold Sinks
Gold sinks. The epic flyer is probably the most popular of them all for the Burning Crusade expansion. While there’s talk of new kinds of mounts for WoTLK, it’s probably not going to be as much of a gold sink as it currently is now. True, people like myself who still don’t have one will be able to get one in the next expansion since 5k gold will be much more easily acquired. This is just like how an epic ground mount is easily affordable now but quite an expense in the pre-TBC days. Speaking of current gold sinks, the new 22 slot “Gigantique” Bag made available at the release of patch 2.4.3 is also a gold sink at 1200 gold. CM nethaera talks about the gold sinks one might encounter in the WoTLK expansion:
Animal rescue centers will be set up by D.E.H.T.A (Druids for the Ethical and Humane Treatment of Animals) and the movement to rid the world of Nessingwary will need funding! Save the penguins! Save the world! /kidding
Or more seriously, I’m sure there will always be something worth spending your hard earned gold on. The new profession Inscription will be in, many people will most likely work on that, the new Death Knights will be in and people will be working to gear those up, get things enchanted, inscripted, need potions and whatever else.
Could there be new mounts? That’s possible.
Need a haircut? You could spend a little getting one.Finally planning that romantic vacation to Grizzlyhills? I hear that costs too. /joking here too
There will be things to spend on and I’m sure another shift in the economy to some degree. As I’ve found though, each realm tends to have their differences in what is valuable and prices tend to vary between them. We’re working on making sure we’re keeping the health of the economy in mind as we’re developing. source
Obviously things like being able to get a haircut or customize new dances are nothing more than money sinks. But they give the player options in making their characters more like what they want them to be and look like. If players are willing to spend gold on titles like “
Of course, as long as there are crafting professions, there will always be things players will spend their money on. Getting that nice piece of gear or getting them enchanted or socketed - these things are money sinks available today that will carry over to the next expansion.
With all these things, one should not be worried about swimming in cash (unless you purposely choose not spend on anything). There will always be things to spend your gold on!

I hope money sinks are always present. If you have nothing to spend your gold on, then why waste your time farming gold? Other than showing off your large stash of cash, gold is useless without money sinks.
Titles, Sockets, Mounts, Enchants, and “Gigantique” Bags will save the economy!
