Death Knights And Professions

by Angelo on May 19th, 2008

Now that it’s confirmed that Death Knights will be starting at level 55 upon creation, that puts that issue out of the way. but ever since it was announced that Death Knights would be starting at a higher level to give the class an epic feeling that comes with it being a hero class, I’ve always wondered exactly what would happen to Death Knights and their professions.

Obviously Death Knight would have professions too. But starting at a high level puts them in an awkward situation when it comes to professions. When jewel crafting was introduced at the release of TBC, some of the level 60 people decided to drop a profession or two to get it. So in that case, you have a high level player going back to the lowbie zones and the AH just to get the materials to level it up. But this is a totally voluntary thing and you have a choice to stick with your professions. Death Knights don’t have a choice since they get created at a high level without profs.

A solution to this would be for Death Knights to complete a quest or a chain of quests that would instantly bump up their two profs of choice to a higher level of say 225. While this would certainly make the Death Knights happy, I can imagine how other classes would complain especially if it has something to do with the inscription profession or some of the harder professions to level like enchanting, engineering or blacksmithing. Which scenario do you think is better and more fair, having them start from scratch or being able to complete a quest to bump up the professions to avoid the annoying farming of mats in lowbie zones?

Which scenario is more fair for Death Knights in WoTLK?

I think starting at a higher level would just make every new WOW player just roll a Death knight to get the skill. Any player that currently has high level toons already has multiple toons with multiple skills. I personally have a toon for almost every skill, even if they aren’t lvl 70 you can take them to skill lvl 300 and get almost everything you need. The more cushion we give new players, the more content we essentially remove from the game.

I guess it’s better to have it annoying yet still easy enough to do than to have a huge advantage over the other classes.

When my pally was in her 40’s I decided to switch to engineering. So I found myself going to lowbie zones farming the mats to level it up. I probably would be pissed myself at the time if there was a way to skip that whole process by just doing a quest available only to a lone class.

The only way I see the other scenario happening is if it involves a really annoying and long quest chain that would probably require a lot of farming of quest items and gold. And yet again, maybe it would be more worth it to just level up the profession.
