Enchanting On The Auction House?
Enchanting sure is quite a different profession. It’s a profession can stand on its own because, like tailoring, it doesn’t need a second profession feeding itself to work out. It’s also quite expensive to level since you disenchant items you could have auctioned off to use as materials. Enchanting is also really the most “social” of all the professions since it requires the enchanter to meet the people they want to give their enchants to. While jewelcrafters also do the same thing sometimes, they can conduct business without meeting the player face to face by auctioning out their cut gems or even having the gems players want cut through the mail system. Enchanters are the only players who have to meet their clients face to face to do business. It’s a good thing they can sell their shards, dusts, essences and other materials on the auction house or it would really be a pain for an anti-social enchanter (by that I mean, I use my enchanter warlock to give enchants to myself alone so I don’t shout around in the cities) to make money
This social nature of enchanting, while having good intentions, provides an obvious and fatal flaw. You can’t enchant your other characters unless your enchanter is on a different account and you have two computers. Even if I level my level 47 warlock to 70 and get his enchanting to 375 I still won’t be able to give enchants to my level 70 mage. And yet my alchemist mage can make potions and even transmute stuff for all my alts. I only enchanters could use the auction house and even the mailing system to send enchants their alts and hence also be able to make money selling enchants while away from the game, it would be a huge relief. Here are CM Drysc’s thoughts.
It was stated at BlizzCon that we would like to see enchanting on the Auction House as a tradable profession at some point. However; we do still want to keep the personal interaction there of finding an enchanter to some degree. Which may translate to something along the lines of requiring personal contact be involved with only the very highest end enchants.
It’s too early to say, and things could change of course. Source
Personal contact for only the very high end enchants would a nice balance for a maintaining the social nature of the profession but also making it easier for the rest of the WoW world to get the best out of it. I’m hoping that this idea will get implemented sometime in the near future.
