“Ghost Wolf” No Longer Tameable By Hunters
As you guys might know, I recently came back from a break from WoW a few days after patch 2.3 came out. I only heard about the Grimtotem Spirit Guide or more widely known as the “ghost wolf” in Dustwallow Marsh when I was already taking my break. I read that it was a cool pet that hunters were trying to tame because of its unique looks. What also intrigued me when I was reading about it was the difficulty in trying to tame it since a hunter needed to decrease the cast time of his tame pet ability since it vanishes after a very short period of time. The hunter would a level 70 shaman for Bloodlust/Heroism or even the procs of a Mystical Skyfire Diamond.
Well, hunters who do have their Ghost Wolf pet should treat it like a collector’s item and be very proud that they have it. Apparently, Blizzard never really intended for it to be tameable. I guess the difficulty in doing o was a hint at that. But as always, players found a loophole around it. CM Drysc mentions that they just implemented a hotfix that makes taming thesm no longer possible.
Through a hotfix we’ve recently removed the ability to tame a Grimtotem Spirit Guide. Players who have already gone through the trouble of taming the creature will be able to keep them unchanged. This hotfix only removes the possibility to tame this creature from here on.
The removal of the spirit guide has been debated within design discussions for a while now as to what impact the pet and its precedent has on the game.
The unintended nature of the taming, the undead status of the guide, appearance of the wolf in relation to the feel of the hunter class, and the complex processes of taming were all issues touched upon and discussed.Ultimately the discussions brought us to the conclusion that this should not be a permanent addition to the pet selection available to hunters; however, those that have already tamed them should be allowed to keep them due to their efforts in obtaining one. source
This is a sad day for hunters who were aspiring to get one of these guys in the future. If I had a high level hunter I would too. I just saw one of them in Arathi Basin today for the first time up close and I thought they looked so cool. I hope that Blizzard will include tamable beasts that look as cool as the ghost wolf in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

I can only hope that they add this model to a mob in RoTLK so the rest of us can have it. I tamed the low lvl purple summoned ravager on my hunter only to have it removed from my stable without my knowledge when Blizz decided to make it untamable. Lets hope Blizz doesnt do that to this one.

What’s pissing off players is that a CM ( I think it was Drsyc) told us that while it was not intended to be tameable they were going to leave things as is and then suddenly this happened.
While I’m not a hunter, I certainly hope this model will appear in WoTLK so hunters could have a pet that looks like this that’s legitimate and not something Blizzard just messed up on.

well change the taming process was 1 thing, and the GM was another.
But the think that pissed people of the most was that, after you coulden’t tame the wulf enymore, was that the original GM post about it, on magic ways was gone, so that there was no evidence about it enymore.
And that blizzard after stated thet the post had never bin there.
