No Plans For A New PvP Battleground Until WotLK
I remember when Arathi Basin was patched in the game. Finally there was another small battleground to do that was different from Warsong Gulch. It gave people another choice for their PvP itch. In fact for a long time on my server (and I’m guessing this was also game wide), Arathi Basin was the most popular level 60 battleground in the game (pre-TBC and new honor system of course).
What do you think about a new battleground being patched in the game before the expansion hits? Well no matter what you think, Blizzard announced that they don’t have any plans to release an new battleground until the Wrath of the Lich King expansion hits. Here’s what I think anyway.
I think right now we have all the sources of honor we need with the four battlegrounds we currently have plus the daily bg quests coming in patch 2.3. Besides, setting up a new bg right now would mean a new mark of honor and a use for such mark of honor. It’s not like we have new bg rewards coming that can’t be covered by the current set of marks. Season 1 arena gear will be moved to the honor rewards vendor when season 3 comes out but those pieces of gear will require Eye of the Storm marks. Why would we need a new battleground when people are more excited about doing arena matches that give better gear? The current ones are sufficient for the game’s needs.
Forcing a new battleground now doesn’t quite make sense since you need a new faction and story when a battleground comes out. The coming out of Eye of the Storm made sense because the Blood E;ves and the Draenei were new races. It would make much more sense to go as planned for a new one in the WotLK expansion since there will be a new story and conflict. Making a new story and conflict right now is just a waste of the design team’s time.

I agree with everything you said about having all the sources of honor we need. Even though a new bg would be interesting it would just water down the current ones and make queue times longer for everything all around.
What I wish they could do is make the current bg’s somewhat randomized. If they could make the maps random or even if they had like 3 different maps for each bg and maybe even random objectives it would at least mix it up a little instead of the same thing over and over.
I would however like them to put a little more effort into world pvp which they are aleast trying with the new outdoor bg so to speak int he expansion. I like the unique randomness in world pvp. Sometime you are heavily outnumbered, sometimes it is even, you never know and when I get tired of being zerged I can just jump into an even numbered bg.
Whoa, did I ramble on or what, lol.

Randomizing the bg’s could be fun in the sense that you really don’t know where you’re going to end up until you get there. That suspense could be thrilling especially if you really don’t mind which bg you’re going to do and just want the honor. The randomness of the arena you fight in when you do your arena matches is part of the fun but in arena the objectives are the same. This isn’t the case with bg’s but as you said, that could be a great way to get away from the repetitiveness.
Bliz is getting better at designing world pvp, first starting with the ones in silithus and EPL. Then they got more exciting in TBC especially with Halaa. I think I read something about being able to take down enemy buildings with siege weapons in WotLK. If that’s part of world pvp, then that should be really cool!

I can’t wait to see what Blizzard has in store with WotLK in regards to BGs and world PvP. I think I also read somewhere that Blizzard is also going to be implementing guild vs guild BGs which seems like that would be a lot of fun and would bring new light and new challenge to the older BGs.
