Rants About Season 3 Arena Rewards
This update about the season 3 arena gear was announced a few days ago and while I normally am not an arena nut for this to affect me, it gives me the shivers just thinking about it.
Well to start we’ll just let everyone know that the arena RATINGS (not the number of points they’ll cost) required to purchase the season 3 items will be 1850 for the weapons, and 2000 for shoulders. The rating will not be required to continue using the item, only to initially purchase it.

I recently just started doing arena myself but I’m only part of a 2v2 arena team so far. I drool over all the cool gear but it’s fine just settling for the stuff I can afford to get at the moment which is the season 1 wand which just costs 870 arena points. My arena team is still learning the ropes and we sport a really miserable rating of at most 1300 and even less most of the time. We struggle to keep the ratings about 1300 but what keeps us going is that someday, no matter how long it takes we;ll be able to use the points for something. In fact since the season 1 gear will be purchasable with honor soon we’re eying the season 2 gear.
But this arena rating minimum requirement to purchase season 3 weapons and shoulders puts a blow to our hope of ever getting them. I know that acquiring them is a sign of prestige and hard work but that could be done by setting a really expensive arena point cost to them. From where I stand, even getting our rating back to 1500 will be c chore. Getting it to 2000 is too much for us and I’m sure many players are frustrated by this too.

I felt the same way when I first started doing arena matches. It does take awhile but you get better and best of all, you do get some gear.
As for the Arena personal ratings needed for the S3 shoulders and weapons, it will be a major challenge for some of the arena teams (including mine) but it really should be.
Awesome blog btw.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand… I can probably never get A3 weapon or shoulder. On the other hand, I also know that people out there can’t buy their way into an arena team and collect the entire set of armor / weapons… which is being done. They’ll still be able to buy most arena rewards… just not the shoulder / weapon.

I guess Bliz wants to create the same kind of prestige Grand marshals and High Warlords had in the old honor system where the weapons available to them had a certain level of glory. Carrying around those weapons back in the day was not only l33t gear but was also a symbol of a great achievement, thus they looked really cool!
The arena rating required for the s3 weapons and shoulders is something not everyone can do so there’s glory in that. But it just seems a bit out of line that they didn’t do the same thing when season 2 first came out and now they are with s3.

I really think Blizz needs to start thinking about 90 percent of its income! Not all players are fortunate enough to get the rating. They are going to start making their customers upset.

Yes it’s really frustrating that us regular folk most probably won’t get our ratings up that high but I guess that’s the point. The s3 shoulders and weapons are designed to be a sign of prestige so not everyone deserves that glory.
I guess the same thing could be said if Bliz made the game so easy such that 80% and up of level 70’s manage to clear the Black Temple. On one hand, it’s nice that more people would experience the end game content but that would also make the game too easy and would diminish the prestige of being a Black Temple guild.

The arena rating minimum requirement to purchase season 3 weapons and shoulders is a terrific idea. I am getting tired of seeing all these players running around with T4 equiv shoulders and what do they have to match? Greens and Blues! The shoulders on a character are the first thing anyone sees. They are a sign of prestige and hard work! I agree they should only be awarded to the people that are dedicated to the PVP aspect. Back in the day the HWL grind was virtually impossible for most people. The time and dedication was huge. In retrospect working for a rating of 2000 or better is more probable.
Now for the players that are bummed out and are sitting there disagreeing with me. If you really want to get the season 3 arena rewards you can always /gquit your PVE guild quit your job and PVP full time. Start with BG’s get your Season 1 gear, use that in arena to get your season 2 and go from there. But i can almost guarantee the arena teams with very high ratings will sell open spots for people that don’t want to work for it. Keep in mind these spots will not come cheap.

You will have to have your personal rating above 2000 in order to get the awards. That way teams will not be able to sell open spots just so someone that paid well can get their gear.

The powerful gear, the purcasing of gear with gold (except shoulders/wpn), the teams and ratings- its all part of the “system” that the genius’ @ blizzard have created. The bartering and trading- its a virtual economy of which everyone is trying to beat, whether it be by buying gold, farm bots, honor bots etc.
All this hoopla is what makes this game crack-craft - and is subsequently why these posts have even been made. Now to really complicate the matter- you can buy a character with full s2 then, s3 now for about 400-600$ — that my fellow gaming-degenerates, blizzard doesn’t like!

Well I think it’s safe to assume that part of the fun is earning the gear you acquire. There really isn’t any point (at least for me) to have a character with gear I never earned myself, even the selling of accounts were allowed.
I’d love to have the s3 shoulders and weapons but only if I earned it myself.

To whomever said that blizzard needs to worry about 90% of its income:
I think its good they are finally putting some difficult targets up here. Why would you want everything to just be able to be handed to you? The fact that 90% of the people in the game aren’t good enough to earn S3 armor is exactly the type of motivation you should have to try and get it.
If everyone can get everything, whether you are good or not, there’s no point to even playing. I’m still opposed to the entire idea of pvp gear because its no effort, no skill, smash n’ grab gear that puts you up to par for raiding. What happened to the days of needing 40+ people working together to get a decent piece of gear?
