Ret Pallies Get Much Needed Threat Reduction
The goal for patch 2.3 as far as Paladins are concerned is to make the Retribution tree more than just a leveling talent tree but also a viable tree for the end game. As the moment, if you’re an end game paladin you are either specialized in the Holy tree as a healer or the Protection tree as a tank. Retribution paladins have been laughed at for the longest time but the next patch might help the vast majority of WoW players change their minds at least a little.
In an attempt to make the Retribution tree more viable for the end game, the devs have already made some changes set out for 2.3 to buff the damage of the entire tree. But threat reduction was another concern for Ret pallies and now they have that too.
After further discussion and testing we’ve decided to add threat reduction deep in the paladin’s retribution tree. Fanaticism will now reduce threat caused by all actions by 6/12/18/24/30%, in addition to its current effect.

My only concern is that Fanaticism is very deep in the Retribution tree so guys who won’t go deep into the tree won’t get the threat reduction. But I guess only players who spec deep into the tree will have the reason to need it since a real Ret pally would want to go all the way to Crusader Strike.
In the old days, the feral tree for druids pretty much had the same issue Ret has now in the sense that it was really just a leveling spec. That’s why druids were forced to go Restoration and be a healer. But now Feral druids are respected tanks and is a respected build. I’m hoping Retribution gets the same kind of recognition in the future (hopefully this coming patch).
