Some interesting and odd additions to Tailoring for WoTLK

by Angelo on August 12th, 2008

Tailoring has been a very good profession for clothies ever since the game came out and even much more so in the Burning Crusade expansion. The Spellfire, Frozen Shadoweave and Primal Mooncloth specializations have given tailor warlocks, mages and priests a very good set that can start them off into the world of raiding and they are relatively easy to make too. The addition of the many spell threads is also a very nice concept that can help a lot of people and can also be a very nice way for tailors to make some money in game.

The following additions to tailoring for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (as reported by World of Raids) takes the spell thread concept and combines it with the current concept that professions have items that only that player can use just like the epic engineering goggles, the specialized tailoring sets, alchemist stones and so on. The following additions are part of the WoTLK beat build 8770.

The Cool

#Brilliant Spellthread - Permanently embroiders spellthread into pants, increasing spell power by 50 and Spirit by 20.

#Azure Spellthread - Permanently embroiders spellthread into pants, increasing spell power by 35 and Stamina by 20.

#Shining Spellthread - Permanently embroiders spellthread into pants, increasing spell power by 35 and Spirit by 12.

We know what spell threads are like. These spell threads look nice for the expansion.

#Darkglow Embroidery - Embroiders a magical pattern into your cloak, giving you a chance to restore 300 mana when you cast a spell. You can only embroider your own cloak and embroidering your cloak will cause it to become soulbound.

So basically these embroideries are like the ring enchants enchanters can only give to themselves except it’s not an enchant and it’s for the cloak. The effect also looks like it could be very popular for raiding mages, warlocks and priests.

The Kinda Odd

So now we know how embroideries work. This one below is a bit strange.

# Lightweave Embroidery - Embroiders a subtle pattern of light into your cloak, giving you a chance to cause an additional 800 to 1000 Holy damage when you damage an enemy with a spell. You can only embroider your own cloak and embroidering your cloak will cause it to become soulbound.

Well it’s not that bad. Chance for additional damage is always a good thing. What makes this odd for me I guess is the fact that the damage proc is from the holy school. But the fact that it’s holy damage could also mean that it could be resisted less since there isn’t any holy resistance gear around.

The “what the heck”

# Swordguard Embroidery - Embroiders a magical pattern into your cloak, causing your damaging melee attacks to sometimes ignore 1000 of your target’s armor. You can only embroider your own cloak and embroidering your cloak will cause it to become soulbound.

What makes this embroidery really mind boggling is the fact that this is something only tailors can use. I’m pretty sure only mages, warlocks and priests take up tailoring for the end game. Perhaps, moonkins do too but that’s about it. So why would there be an embroidery that benefits only melee classes? Unless we see a melee class take up tailoring, which will be a waste of time and resources anyway, then this embroidery is complete garbage.

I believe the Lightweave will be directed toward paladin tanks. But a pally tank with tailoring? Not very common…

I think Blizzard is making end game to be more universilly used by anybody. Before leatherworking was more geared to people who can used the crafted gear. However, since the addition of drums many hardcore endgame guilds have had cloths or plate wearer make drums for raids. My mage dropped tailoring once I replaced my crafted epix to make drums for our raids.

This is yet another thing blizzard is doing to reward people for no reason. It’s exactly what happened with the sso neckpieces. If your aldor you get this awesome necklace, and if your scyer you get a crappy necklace that doesn’t do fuck.

So, in closing grats to the one rogue db who is a tailor just to sell the primal mooncloth, here’s a ridiculously good enchant for no reason! yay, your stupid decision to take up a profession that should of benefited you in absolutely no way has finally paid off!

Swordguard Embroidery will most likely be used by Demonology warlocks for metamorphosis. In the demon for all of your attacks are melee, so the enchant is logical for that. The Lightweave Embroidery is simply more damage. More damage is more damage. Just because its holy dosn’t mean that its for any specific class. It is most likely holy due to resistances and damage increases (no holy increase in curse of elements and such).
