WoW Surnames?

by Angelo on September 15th, 2007

I remember back when I was playing Guild Wars and World of Warcraft at the same time, one thing that caught my eye was that Guild Wars had surnames for their characters. It seems that WoW characters could have surnames too in the future.

The developers would very much like to add surnames to the game at some point in the future, but there are no immediate plans for this on schedule.

Having a surname could be very cool if having one would make your characters name even cooler. For example, the name Grimreach Icemantle would sound like a sinister and intimidating force. But what about for guys named Bubblehearth or Lawladin, Gnomestomper or Largolas. It’s going to be hard to attach a surname to those funny names. But it sure would be nice to have that option to add one in the future.

I like the idea and it doesn’t bother me that some people won’t have them. Some just don’t need them. And you might be surprised. For example Dragonlance’s Tasslehoff stands pretty much on its own. But heck “Tasslehoff Burfoot” just works for the character.

I agree with you 100%. Surnames will add more character but you have to be very creative or you spoil the power. Start your mind working or is it breaking.
